This sequel to the Basic Jewelry workshop advances fabrication skills to the next level. Students will design a custom multi-layer sterling pendant around a pierced design or stone settings, with a border and bail. Along the way, they will create fun new textures, solder exclusively with hard solder for strong and invisible joins, and use anti-firescale fluxes. This workshop will also cover using polishing compounds, like rouge and bobbing, for smooth lustrous finishes; and larger buffs on the polishing motor for faster finishing.

Techniques taught include:
• Sweat soldering

• Soldering the entire pendant with only hard solder

• Make a twisted wire border for a bezel setting

• Adding a border to the pendant

• Fabricating a custom bail
• Using anti-firescale fluxes

• Strategies for positioning pieces accurately for soldering
• Ways to create textured surfaces without hammering
• Polishing with compounds like rouge and bobbing
• Using polishing motors and large buffs for faster polishing

Kit of materials and use of tools included with the class. All students have their own bench full of tools to use during class.
