Silver Wing Pendant

Thursday, February 15, 2018 - Friday, February 16, 2018
10:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Cost: $375.00

This pendant combines an elegant, beautifully balanced shape with the color and sparkle of a tube-set gemstone. This is an excellent project for developing confidence and finesse with the jewelers saw as you pierce and saw an intricate design in a backplate using a very fine (6/0) blade. We’ll create a tube setting from thick-walled tubing, making a seat for a large (6mm) gemstone. The unusual bail, made from a large jump ring and tubing, pulls it all together.

Specific techniques you’ll learn:

• Piercing/sawing a detailed design out of metal

  • Forming and soldering using rectangular wire
  • Fabricating a setting from tubing using the flex shaft and a setting bur

Kit fee: $95. The kit fee is due the first day of class and payable to the instructors. Kit includes sterling sheet, wire and tubing, and a semi-precious gemstone to make a project like the one shown here on the is page. Chain is not included with the kit and is optional, but some is available for purchase during class.

A full-color instructional handout, and use of all tools included. Each student will have a bench with a complete set of tools and equipment, including soldering station, to use during class.

Students should have basic jewelry fabrication experience, such as successful completion of a Basic Jewelry 1 workshop or comparable experience that includes sawing, filing, and soldering.
